What it does

You.com Web Search is an aeon skill: Web search using You.com Search API with high-quality, cited results - runs keyless out of the box; YDC_API_KEY unlocks higher limits and real-time web crawling. Like every aeon skill it is one SKILL.md prompt file that runs unattended on your own GitHub Actions, on a schedule or when you trigger it, and sends what it finds to Telegram, Discord, Slack or email.

This skill provides web search functionality via You.com's Search API, offering several advantages over basic WebSearch:

  • Higher quality results with relevance ranking and citation extraction
  • Works with zero configuration - no key, wallet, or sign-up needed for the keyless tier
  • Real-time web crawling for fresh content when livecrawl=web is enabled (keyed tier)
  • Structured result format with titles, URLs, snippets, and publication dates
  • Optional livecrawl control through YOUCOM_LIVECRAWL when a full page fetch is useful

Input: the var setting

Every aeon skill takes one optional text input, var, set in aeon.yml or typed in when you run it by hand. It picks the target or the mode for that run.

Search query or topic. When empty, uses a general search for current notable developments across tracked areas.

What it needs

Besides the model you connected to aeon, You.com Web Search uses the following. Add secrets as GitHub Actions secrets on your aeon repo, or in Aeon Connect.

  • YDC_API_KEY - optional secret, unlocks more data or features

Install and run it

Easiest: open Aeon Connect, sign in with GitHub and turn on You.com Web Search. No clone, no terminal. To add it to an existing aeon repo from a shell, run:

bin/add-skill aeonfun/aeon you-web-search

Then switch it on in aeon.yml (the default schedule is filled in):

skills:
  you-web-search: { enabled: true, schedule: "workflow_dispatch", var: "" }
