Remotion / aeon skill

AI agent that renders short videos

Render a short (~10s) video on any topic with Remotion - the agent writes a storyboard JSON, a bundled React/Remotion project renders it to an MP4, and the clip is committed to the repo and delivered by URL. No editor, no external generative API.

What it does

Remotion is an aeon skill: Render a short (~10s) video on any topic with Remotion - the agent writes a storyboard JSON, a bundled React/Remotion project renders it to an MP4, and the clip is committed to the repo and delivered by URL. No editor, no external generative API. Like every aeon skill it is one SKILL.md prompt file that runs unattended on your own GitHub Actions, on a schedule or when you trigger it, and sends what it finds to Telegram, Discord, Slack or email.

This skill turns a one-line brief into a real rendered MP4. It does not call a generative-video API - it writes a storyboard (structured JSON) and hands it to a bundled Remotion project that renders deterministic, on-brand motion graphics in React. The agent is the creative director; Remotion is the renderer.

Input: the var setting

Every aeon skill takes one optional text input, var, set in aeon.yml or typed in when you run it by hand. It picks the target or the mode for that run.

The video brief: what the video should be about. Examples: "explain what Uniswap v4 hooks are", "recap this week's aeon ships", "a 20s teaser for the $aeon token". Optional trailing flags:

  • --orientation landscape|portrait|square (default landscape 1920×1080; portrait 1080×1920 for Shorts/Reels; square 1080×1080)
  • --theme dark|light (default dark)
  • --accent #hex (brand/highlight color, default #7c5cff)
  • --brand <label> (small persistent label, e.g. a handle)
  • --scenes N (target scene count, 2-4)

Videos are hard-capped at 10 seconds - short by design. The composition clamps total duration to 10s regardless of the storyboard, so size it to fit (see step 3). --seconds is accepted but ignored above 10.

If var is empty, log REMOTION_NO_VAR and exit cleanly - no notify (a render burns real CI compute, so the skill never fires on a blank default run).

What it needs

No extra API keys or MCP servers. It runs on the model you connected to aeon (a Claude subscription token, an API key, or another login).

Install and run it

Easiest: open Aeon Connect, sign in with GitHub and turn on Remotion. No clone, no terminal. To add it to an existing aeon repo from a shell, run:

bin/add-skill aeonfun/aeon remotion

Then switch it on in aeon.yml (the default schedule is filled in):

skills:
  remotion: { enabled: true, schedule: "workflow_dispatch", var: "" }
